Hudson Beach Glass is a group of four glass artists: John Gilvey, Wendy Gilvey, Michael Benzer and Jennifer Smith. Established in 1987, their studio is located in an old ice house in the Hudson Valley of New York state. They expanded into our gallery and glass blowing demonstration studio in 2003, which is an old firehouse. They hand cast glass using ancient processes to make functional and sculptural objects. They make bowls, serving platters, trays, perfumes bottles, jars, soap dishes, candle stands and sculptural centerpieces. These are available in eleven transparent and three opaque colors with a Beach or Jewel finish. The molds are often made with found objects and textured materials, which gives the glass an organic texture, characteristic of our work.
Each piece Hudson Beach Glass makes is part of a limited edition. Some pieces are one of a kind and others are made for several years. It is recommended to hand-wash your Hudson Beach glass pieces. Occasionally the glass will appear dull after use and washing. Rub the glass with food safe mineral oil and this will restore the original luster of the beach glass finish. Please do not use the glass in the microwave.
