What I have seen in the arctic has resulted in several sculptures. One of those is Arctic Bound. This piece was partially started by reading an article about the new mini geo trackers that are now light enough for a migrating sandpiper that weighs an ounce or less to carry. The semi-palmated sandpipers winter along the coast of South America. In the spring the Eastern population flies up to 2500 miles non-stop over the Atlantic Ocean to New England or southern Canada. A few days after leaving South America they arrive on their breeding grounds in Arctic Canada.
This piece came from my imagining a flock flying through the night over the ocean past the moon. I am totally amazed that these diminutive athletes can negotiate the winds and storms during their marathon flight.
