Intaglio is a printmaking technique in which an image is incised into a plate. To print an intaglio, ink is applied to the surface and then rubbed with tarlatan cloth to remove most of the excess. Imero Gobbato uses "three wool blankets" to remove this excess ink, leaving ink only in the incisions. A damp piece of paper is placed on top and the plate and paper are run through a printing press that, through pressure, transfers the ink from the recesses of the plate to the paper.
This collection of intaglios depicts life in
HUMBRAVANA. Humbravana is a world dreamed up by Imero as a child in Italy. It has evolved in intricate detail over seventy years in the form of music, maps, language, philosophy and government. Humbravana is a place of justice, truth and uncommon beauty; a place of utopian harmony.
