“It is unusual to see a photograph and instantly know who took the shot. With this hand-toned, gelatin silver print the photographer can only be Michael Kahn.”
(Cruising World, November 1997)
Michael Kahn’s photographs have appeared in publications throughout the United States, including The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Family Circle, Woman’s Day, Adirondack Life, Historic Preservation, Cruising World and Coastal Living. While Kahn has achieved great success as a color photographer, he derives the most personal satisfaction from his sepia-toned gelatin silver prints, which have been widely exhibited in museums, art galleries and corporate collections throughout the country. Recently, he has combined his passions for sailing, seascapes and historic boats and made them the focus of his work, creating remarkable images from Maine to the Caribbean. The colors, textures and moods of his work alter our expectations of what a black and white photograph is. He monumentalizes the bold details and combines them with warm tones; within them is found a stark beauty that makes for a unique body of work.
